How to use ChatSpire
ChatSpire is a chat bot you control from a website called the portal: no installs, and no typing commands to set it up. This guide walks through everything it can do.
Getting started 2 minutes
- Open the portal: chatspire.app. It's also in the bot's Twitch bio at twitch.tv/chatspire.
- Log in with Twitch. Click Log in with Twitch and approve on Twitch. ChatSpire only gets read access to your channel's events (follows, subs, bits, raids, redemptions). It can never post as you.
- ChatSpire joins your chat within a minute, with alerts, stats and your public command list switched on.
- Make the bot a mod. In your Twitch chat, type
/mod chatspire. This unlocks follow alerts, moderation, clips, watch time for lurkers and faster replies. Without it, a lot of features stay off. - Follow the checklist. The Overview page has a "Get the most out of ChatSpire" checklist that ticks itself off as you go.
Anything you save on the portal is live in chat right away. You never need to restart anything.
Finding your way around
The menu on the left has one page per job. Bigger pages have tabs along the top (for example Commands → Stats). On a phone, the menu becomes a strip you can swipe.
| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Overview | Your checklist, latest stream recap and top clips |
| Live | Chat, quick buttons, title and category while you stream |
| Commands | Your own chat commands, stats, clips and shoutouts, built-in replies |
| Timers | Messages posted every few minutes while you're live |
| Alerts & messages | Thank-you messages for follows, subs, bits and raids; welcomes; Discord |
| Giveaways | Run a giveaway and pick a winner |
| Loyalty | Chatter levels and ranks, your own channel currency, chat games and a leaderboard (all off until you switch them on) |
| Viewers | Look up anyone: account age, watch time, messages, history |
| Rewards | Channel point rewards that ChatSpire handles |
| Analytics | Stats, best time to stream, new vs returning chatters, top supporters, top emotes, past streams |
| Moderation | Chat modes, spam-bot shield, chat rules, mod log |
| Updates | Everything new in ChatSpire, newest first |
| Activity | Every change made by you or your mods, with Undo |
| Settings | Mods, logins, extra features, your own bot name, removing ChatSpire |
Master switches: Commands, Timers, Alerts & messages, Giveaways, Rewards and Moderation each have one switch at the very top of the page that turns the whole section off for your channel. Nothing is deleted, so switch it back on and everything works like before. The menu shows OFF next to a switched-off section.
| Switched off | What stops |
|---|---|
| Commands | Every command, and automatic shoutouts on raids |
| Timers | All timers |
| Alerts & messages | Alerts, welcomes, the end-of-stream thank you and Discord go-live posts |
| Giveaways | Entering, and starting new giveaways |
| Rewards | ChatSpire ignores redemptions (they stay in your Twitch reward queue) |
| Moderation | The spam-bot shield and chat rules (chat modes and the mod log still work) |
| Loyalty | XP, currency and games (this one starts off) |
Use the Feedback button at the top of the portal to send an idea or report a problem straight to the bot owner.
Commands
You make commands on the portal, not in chat: there's no !addcom. Go to Commands and click + New command.
- Name: what viewers type, without the
!(for examplediscord). - Reply: what ChatSpire says. Use variables to fill in details (see the table below).
- Who can use it: Everyone, Subscribers (plus VIPs, mods and you), Mods (plus you), or Streamer only.
- Cooldown: seconds before it can be used again.
- Save. The command works in chat straight away.
Useful extras
- Random replies: click Add a random reply to give a command up to 10 replies. ChatSpire picks one each time and never repeats the same one twice in a row. Great for
!lurkor!8ball. - Reply when nobody is named: set a separate reply for when the command is used alone. For example,
!hugon its own says "Who do you want to hug?" while!hug @friendhugs them. - Emotes: click the 😀 button inside any reply box to add your channel's emotes (Twitch, 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ), Twitch's global emotes or emoji. Search by name; the ones you use most show first. It works in every box where you write something ChatSpire says: commands, timers, alerts, welcomes and the Live page. A green ✓ marks the Twitch emotes the bot can actually use; a red ✕ means it would show as plain text. Twitch sub emotes only work if the bot is subscribed to your channel (you can gift it a sub), and follower emotes need it to follow you. 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes show for viewers who have those extensions.
- Folders: put commands in folders like Fun, Info or Mods to keep the list tidy.
- Command gallery: ready-made commands (
!lurk,!hug,!8ball,!coinflip, a death counter and more). One click adds one, then edit and save. - Import: coming from Nightbot or StreamElements? Click Import, then paste your commands or fetch them. Variables, cooldowns and permissions are converted for you.
- Built-in replies (Commands → Built-in replies): change what
!watchtime,!top,!uptime,!clipand the other built-in commands say. - Stats (Commands → Stats): how often each command is used, and which ones nobody uses.
Variables you can use in replies
| Variable | Becomes |
|---|---|
{user} | The person who used the command |
{touser} | The name typed after the command (!hug @friend) |
{args} | Everything typed after the command |
{channel} | Your channel name |
{uptime} | How long you've been live |
{game} / {title} | Your current category / stream title |
{viewers} / {followers} | Current viewer count / follower count |
{followage} | How long the person (or the name after the command) has followed |
{count} | How many times this command has been used |
{random} / {random:1-6} | A random number from 1–100 / your own range |
Viewers type !commands to get a link to a public page listing every command they can use. Mod-only and streamer-only commands stay hidden.
Alerts, timers, welcomes & Discord
These automatic messages keep chat lively. Set each one up once and it runs by itself.
- Alerts (Alerts & messages → Alerts): the thank-you messages for follows, subs, resubs, gift subs, bits, raids and channel point redemptions. Write your own wording and switch single alerts off. One switch at the top turns posting alerts in chat on or off.
- Timers (Timers page): up to 10 messages repeated every few minutes, like your Discord link or schedule. They only post while you're live and only after chat has been active, so they never talk to an empty room. Send now tests one.
- Welcome first-time chatters (Alerts & messages → Chat messages): greets someone the first time they ever chat in your channel. Off until you switch it on.
- Welcome back regulars: greets people who come back after being away for 14 days (you can change the number). Off until you switch it on.
- Lurk tracking (Alerts & messages → Chat messages, on by default): when someone types
!lurkand later chats again, ChatSpire says "👀 Welcome back @Sam — you lurked for 2h 10m!". If you have your own !lurk command, it still answers; ChatSpire just remembers. - Milestones (Alerts & messages → Milestones): set your own goals — followers, subscribers or viewers watching — and ChatSpire celebrates in chat (and in your Discord) when you reach one. Each one celebrates once; Quick add suggests your next follower goals.
- Stream updates (Alerts & messages → Chat messages, on by default): while you're live, changing your category or title (on the portal, or anywhere on Twitch) is announced in chat, for example "🎮 Now playing: Valorant". Changes made on Twitch are noticed within a minute. Edit the wording or switch it off there.
- End-of-stream thank you: when you go offline, ChatSpire posts a short recap, for example "That's a wrap! 3h 12m live · 41 new followers · MVP chatter: @Sam".
- Shoutouts (Commands → Clips & shoutouts): mods type
!so @name, and ChatSpire also presses Twitch's own Shoutout button. You can shout out raiders automatically too. - Discord (Alerts & messages → Discord): paste a Discord webhook link and ChatSpire posts once when you go live, with your title, game and stream preview. You choose who it pings (nobody, @here or @everyone), and it can post a stream recap when you end. Send a test post never pings anyone.
To get a Discord webhook link: in Discord, open your channel's settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook → Copy Webhook URL.
While you're live
Keep the Live page open on a second screen or your phone. It shows your chat and has a button for everything you'd normally open Twitch's dashboard for.
| On the Live page | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stream title & category | Change them without opening Twitch, even before you go live. Type a game and pick it from the list. |
| Presets | Save a title + category you use often, then switch with one click (up to 8). |
| Chat + Send | Watch chat (first-time chatters and subs are highlighted) and talk as ChatSpire. |
| Clip | Clips the last 30 seconds and posts the link in chat. |
| Marker | Marks the moment so you can find it when editing. |
| Poll / Prediction | Starts a Twitch poll or prediction; watch votes live, end it or pick the winner. |
| Raid | Type a channel name; Twitch counts down 90 seconds. Cancel raid works until then. |
| Giveaway | Jumps to the Giveaways page. |
| Ads | Shows when the next ad is due, runs one now (30 s to 3 min) or snoozes it by 5 minutes. |
| Chat modes | One click for slow mode, followers-only, emote-only, subs-only or Shield Mode. |
Giveaways (Giveaways page): set the prize, the word viewers type to enter (!join by default), who can enter (everyone, followers or subs), extra luck for subs and an optional timer. ChatSpire announces it, confirms entries in chat and draws the winner. The page then shows what the winner says in chat so you know they're there. Reroll picks someone else.
YouTube chapters: every marker you or your mods add (button or !marker) is saved. After the stream, go to Analytics → Past streams and click Copy as YouTube chapters to paste them into your YouTube description.
Loyalty: levels, currency & games
Reward the people who show up. Everything on the Loyalty page starts off: switch Loyalty on with the switch at the top, then turn on the parts you want. Viewers only earn while you're live, and bots never earn.
- ⭐ Levels & ranks: viewers get XP for chatting (once every 30 seconds, so spam doesn't pay) and for watching (every 5 minutes). Level 5 takes about 6 hours of stream, level 10 about 18 with the default settings, and the page shows the times for your own numbers. Give each level range a rank name (Newcomer, Regular, Veteran…). ChatSpire can announce level-ups in chat, or only new ranks. Viewers type
!rank. - 🪙 Currency: your own points, named whatever you like (coins, gems, bananas…), earned the same way. Subs and VIPs can earn double from chatting. Viewers type
!points(you can rename it) and can share with!give @name 50. Mods use!addpoints @name 100/!removepoints @name 100, or the Give box on the Leaderboard tab. - 🎲 Games (need Currency on), each with its own switch, min/max bet and cooldown:
!gamble 100(or!gamble all): roll 1–100; 61–98 doubles the bet, 99–100 triples it.!slots 50: two matching pay 1.5×, three matching 5×, three 💎 10×.!flip 50 heads: call the coin flip and double your bet.!duel @friend 100: challenge someone who's in chat right now (not yourself). They type!acceptwithin 60 seconds (or!deny). Nothing is taken unless they accept; then the winner takes both bets.
- 🏆 Leaderboard: see everyone's level, XP and currency, find someone, and give or take currency.
!leaderboardin chat shows the top 3 and links to a public leaderboard page (you can switch the page off). Reset all XP or Reset all currency starts a new season.
Song requests on Spotify 3 minutes, once
Viewers request songs and ChatSpire puts them straight into your Spotify queue. You need Spotify Premium (Spotify only lets Premium accounts add to a queue), and Spotify must be open and playing on your PC or phone while you stream.
- Open 🎵 Song requests and follow the steps: make your own free app in the Spotify developer dashboard (Spotify limits each app to a few users, so every streamer makes their own), paste the Redirect URI ChatSpire shows you, tick Web API, then paste the app's Client ID and press Connect Spotify.
- Pick how viewers request: 💎 Create “Song request” reward (channel points; needs Extra features and Affiliate/Partner) and/or ⌨
!sr song namein chat (everyone, subs & VIPs, VIPs or mods, with a wait time per person). - Switch Song requests on. Use Add to my queue at the bottom to try it.
- Viewers type a song name (one more time daft punk) or paste a Spotify song link.
- Too long, explicit (if you block those), not found, or Spotify isn't playing? ChatSpire says why in chat, and channel points are refunded.
!songshows what's playing with its link · mods can!skipsong·!spotifyposts your Spotify profile or playlist (add the link on the page).- By default requests only work while you're live — switch Only while I'm live off if you want them anytime.
Growing your channel
- 🧭 Discover: when you're live, your stream shows on ChatSpire's public Discover page, where viewers find streamers by game — smallest streams first, so everyone gets a turn. Don't want to be listed? Settings → Channel → Discover page.
- 🖼️ Recap card: after each stream, click Share card on the Overview's "Last stream" (or Analytics → Past streams) to get a colorful image of your stats. Download it, copy it, or post it to your Discord in one click.
- 🔗 Link clicks (Analytics → Links): switch it on and the links ChatSpire posts in your chat — your Discord, socials, sponsors — go out as short links that count clicks, then send people straight on. You see clicks today, this week, this month and all time for every link. Twitch links and ChatSpire's own pages are left alone, and link-preview bots and repeat clicks don't count.
Moderation
All moderation needs ChatSpire to be a mod in your chat (/mod chatspire). You, your mods and VIPs are never affected by any of it.
- Spam-bot shield (on by default): bans the "buy followers / viewers" ad bots on their very first message, even when they disguise links. Subscribers and anyone who has chatted before are never checked, and borderline cases only get a 10-minute timeout. Every catch is listed with an Unban button. If spam still gets through, switch on Strict mode. If a word or site you use keeps getting caught, add it under "never spam".
- Chat rules (all off until you switch them on):
- Block links, with a list of allowed sites. Mods can type
!permit @nameto allow one link. - Too many capitals and Emote spam, with limits you set.
- Banned words, one per line (
*is a wildcard), set to delete the message, time out for 10 minutes, or ban. - Links, caps and emotes are gentle: the first slip only deletes the message, then a 1-minute and a 10-minute timeout follow.
- Go easy on subscribers lets subs post links, caps and emotes. Tell people why posts a short note in chat.
- Block links, with a list of allowed sites. Mods can type
- Mod log (Moderation → Mod log): every ban, timeout and deleted message from the last 90 days, whether by ChatSpire or by your mods, with Unban and Remove timeout buttons.
- Shared ban list (Settings → Channel, off by default): once you join, a permanent ban in your channel is copied to every other channel on the list, and theirs to yours. Timeouts aren't shared, and unbanning someone lifts the shared bans too.
- Viewer lookup (Viewers page): type any username to see the account's age (with a warning for brand-new accounts), follow age, sub, messages, watch time and mod history. Time out, ban or unban from there.
Giving your mods access
Your mods can run ChatSpire for you from their own Twitch account. They never need your password.
- Go to Settings → Mods. Type the mod's Twitch username (or click one of the "Mods seen in your chat" suggestions) and click Give access.
- Send them the portal link: chatspire.app
- The mod opens it, clicks I'm a moderator and logs in with Twitch. Your channel shows up for them right away. Mods of several ChatSpire channels switch between them at the top of the menu.
Choose what each mod can touch. Each mod's row has buttons for Live tab, Commands, Timers, Alerts & messages, Giveaways, Channel point rewards, Viewer lookup and Moderation & mod log. Everything is allowed until you switch something off.
Mods can never open Settings, see your Discord link, or remove ChatSpire. Removing a mod takes effect immediately. Every change a mod makes shows up under Activity, where you can undo it.
Your own bot name 1 minute
Want ChatSpire to talk in your chat as YourNameBot instead of chatspire? A Twitch name belongs to one account, so you make a free Twitch account for your bot and ChatSpire talks through it, only in your chat. Go to Settings → Bot name:
- Type the name you want. ChatSpire checks straight away whether it's free on Twitch.
- Create the account. Open a private / incognito window, go to Twitch's sign-up page (there's a Copy sign-up link button) and use that name. You can use the same email or phone as your channel. Skip this if the account already exists and is yours.
- Click Connect my bot, paste the link it gives you into that same private window and click Authorize. The portal shows "Talking as …" when it's done.
- Make it a mod: click Copy /mod command and paste it in your chat, so slow mode, followers-only mode and link blocking never stop it.
Everything else stays the same. ChatSpire still reads your chat with chatspire, so that name can still show in your viewer list. Give your bot a profile picture on Twitch and it shows in chat too. Go back to the ChatSpire name undoes it at any time. If your bot account ever loses access, ChatSpire talks as chatspire again until you reconnect it, so nothing is missed.
Stats, rewards & safety nets
- Analytics: messages, chatters, follows, subs, bits, raids and viewers for any day, week, month or year, compared with the period before. The tabs along the top add Best time to stream (a heatmap of when chat is busiest), New vs returning chatters per stream, Top supporters by bits, gifted subs and subs, Top emotes (including 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ), and Past streams with a recap of each one.
- Bots stay out of your stats (Analytics → Bots): watch time, top chatters,
!top,!watchtimeranks, recaps and chatter numbers only count real people. ChatSpire recognises well-known bots (Nightbot, StreamElements…) and viewer bots (accounts sitting silently in lots of channels at once) by itself. Add your own extra bots there, or open someone in Viewers and click This is a bot. Got it wrong? Not a bot counts them again. Past stats are cleaned up too. - Bots stay out of your stats (Analytics → Bots): watch time, top chatters,

- Rewards: create channel point rewards that make ChatSpire say something, run one of your commands, or enter the current giveaway. Redemptions are marked done automatically, and refunded if something goes wrong. Needs Extra features and an Affiliate or Partner channel.
- Activity: every change made by you, your mods or the bot owner. Click Undo to put something back the way it was.
- Settings → Logins: every device logged in to your portal (yours and your mods'), with Log out for any you don't recognise. You can also get an alert in a private Discord channel whenever someone new logs in.
- Settings → Channel → Remove ChatSpire: the bot leaves your chat and its access is removed, including from your Twitch Connections. Your commands and stats are kept in case you come back. Disconnecting ChatSpire from twitch.tv → Settings → Connections works too: the bot leaves your chat straight away.

Common questions
The bot isn't replying in my chat
Check the switch at the top of the Commands page is on. Then check the command name is typed exactly, and wait a few seconds: commands have a cooldown, so a quick second try is ignored. Mod-only commands don't answer viewers. If it still doesn't reply, use the Feedback button.
Follow alerts don't work
Twitch only tells moderators about follows. Type /mod chatspire in your chat.
Clips, chat modes or moderation say they can't be used
ChatSpire needs to be a mod (/mod chatspire). For clips, you also need to be live.
The title, ads, raid or poll buttons say they need approval
Go to Settings → Extra features and click Turn on (or Approve the new ones), then approve on Twitch. Polls, predictions and rewards also need Affiliate or Partner.
Timers never post
Timers only post while you're live, and only after people have chatted since the last one.
Bots show up in my watch time or top chatters
Go to Analytics → Bots and type the bot's name, or open it in Viewers and click This is a bot. It's removed from every stat, past ones included.
Bots show up in my watch time or top chatters
Go to Analytics → Bots and type the bot's name, or open it in Viewers and click This is a bot. It's removed from every stat, past ones included.
Nobody is earning XP or currency
They only earn while you're live. Check that the Loyalty switch at the top of the page is on, and that Levels or Currency is switched on too.
Can I turn something off for a while?
Yes. Use the switch at the top of that page (for example Timers or Moderation). Your setup is kept and comes back when you switch it on.
Can the bot have a different name in my chat?
Yes. See Your own bot name: make a Twitch account for your bot and connect it under Settings → Bot name.
My emotes show as text when the bot posts them
In the 😀 picker, a green ✓ shows which emotes the bot can use and a red ✕ which it can't. Twitch sub emotes only work if the bot is subscribed to your channel (gift it a sub), and follower emotes need it to follow you. 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes show for viewers who have those browser extensions.
Do I need to keep a page open for the bot to work?
No. ChatSpire runs on its own around the clock. The portal is only for changing settings and for the Live page.
Can ChatSpire post as me or change my account?
No. The normal login is read-only. Extra features only allow the specific things listed there, and you can remove access any time at twitch.tv → Settings → Connections (the bot then leaves your chat).
I made a mistake
Open Activity and click Undo next to the change.
I have an idea or found a bug
Click Feedback at the top of the portal. It goes straight to the bot owner.
